Our story so far

We’ve come a long way from our humble beginnings!

July 2015 – Picnic founded 👶

We ran our first trial in the city of Amersfoort (the Netherlands) with 12 electric delivery vans.

March 2017 – Investment round 📈

We delivered in most major cities in The Netherlands and raised a significant investment to accelerate our growth.

April 2017 – 100th ePv 🌱

Our small electric Picnic vehicles (ePvs) allow us to deliver groceries without CO2 pollution or blocking inner-city roads. With 100 ePvs on the road, we’re ready for growth!

April 2018 – Picnic Germany 🇩🇪

Picnic goes international! Our first German hub was opened, serving thousands of people in the greater Düsseldorf area.

Nov 2019 – Investment round 🤖

Picnic continues growing. With more than 1,000,000 customers in the Netherlands, we raised another investment to create a fully automated fulfilment center.

July 2020 – 5 Years 🎉

Time flies when you’re having fun. We celebrate our 5th anniversary and make big plans for the future.

May 2021 – Picnic France 🇫🇷

Our 3rd country! Starting from scratch, we’re rapidly scaling-up our assortment, customer relationships, and operations.

Sept 2021 – Investment round 🚀

We raise €600 million in a financing round led by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust. This will help towards our rapid expansion!

April 2022 — Our automated warehouse (FCA) opens! 🏢

The FCA is set to fulfil more than 100,000 customer orders per week, or close to a million items per day. The future of grocery shopping is here!
